Maternity Reflexology

Maternity reflexology is a deeply relaxing treatment which helps to rebalance your body and soothe your mind   It allows valuable time for you to focus on you, your pregnancy and your baby.  It is a wonderful therapy  to experience throughout your pregnancy.   It is helps to reduce any stress and anxiety which you may be experiencing, improve your mood, aid sleep.  In doing so, maternity reflexology helps to reduce stress hormones, which have a physical effect on the body.

Towards the end of your pregnancy reflexology helps to prepare the body for birth by helping you to deeply relax and thus help with the production of Oxytocin, a hormone produced by the body.  Stress impacts the body  by reducing the production of oxytocin, the benefits of which are listed below.

What can I expect?

After discussing your medical history and pregnancy journey, I will answer any questions you may have.  You will be able to relax on an adjustable, deep memory foam couch.  The couch is adjusted to suit the stage of your pregnancy  - from lying flat with legs elevated for comfort, to fully seated towards the later stages.  A soft blanket will be available to keep you warm.  Your feet/hands will be refreshed and a soothing reflexology balm will be massaged into your feet and lower legs or hands and forearms.

At the start of the reflexology session, I will massage the lower leg in a slow, gentle, rhythmic manner.  Not only does this feel amazing, it encourages the production of Oxytocin which has many benefits, including:

Increases your pain threshold

Reduces stress hormones

Reduces blood pressure and heart rate

Helps to induce sleep

Helps to promote uterine contractions (when baby is ready)

Helps with lactation

Maternity reflexology uses a variety of traditional reflexology techniques but also techniques and pressure points specific for pregnancy.   If you are unfamiliar or haven't received reflexology for a while, I will always use a light pressure in the first session, this can be adapted with further sessions, but always within your comfort levels.   As with traditional reflexology I will use massage and pressure points to feel across the reflexes for changes to tissue texture and density and work to restore balance.

At the end of the session, I will give you some aftercare advice and offer you a couple of hand key reflex points, that you can use to reinforce the treatment at home.  Join me for a session that will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Maternity Reflexology can not induce a baby, being induced is a medical procedure.   I am trained in reflexology techniques which I believe will help prepare the body for birth by supporting your body to relax and release any tension, supporting the body's production of Oxytocin.  Baby will come when baby is ready.
